Your Australian must have validity exceeding 6 months after the date of entry. A valid passport and a return ticket will allow you a stay of up to 4 months.

Currency & Credit Cards

The Fiji unit of currency is the Fiji dollar (FJD). Bank notes are $2, $5, $10, $20 & $50. Coins are 1 cent, 2 cents, 5 cents, 10 cents, 20 cents, 50 cents & 1$.Major credit cards can be used at all shops, restaurants, bars and major resorts.

Weather

The best time for visiting the Fiji Islands is between May and November. This is the 'winter' season, and though still deliciously warm and tropical, it is not as humid as the hotter, wetter summer months of December - April.

Getting around

The roads are relatively empty and they drive on the left, so hiring a small motor car is the most popular way to get around. If you don’t want to drive there are regular bus services which you hail from the side of the road however they are usually very old and uncomfortable.  Taxis are very reasonably priced but it is best to agree to a price before you step into the cab.

Domestic flights to the outer islands are available with Sunflower Airlines and Turtle Airways.

What to Wear

Light clothes are advisable because of the tropical climate.  For women, light cotton dresses, slacks and shorts and pareos for the day and a long skirt or cool dress for evenings.  Men are most comfortable in light weight slacks and shorts and open neck shirts. Sandals or light canvas shoes are adequate.

General Tips:

Take a day cruise out to the Mamanuca or the Yasawa Islands.

Visit the Sigatoka sand dunes & Tavuni hill fort.

Shop in Nadi or Suva and but some factory outlet items – great value.

Go to church on Sunday and meet the locals and enjoy their wonderful singing.

Visit Bouma National Park, fabulous waterfalls, Marine Park and coastal walks.

Visit the most picturesque village in the South Pacific - Navala Village – all original thatched roof bures and a chance to meet the locals and learn their customs.

Enjoy the spectacular diving and snorkeling available around the islands.
