Getting There

Visa

Australian passport holders are not required to organise a visa pre-arrival but tourist visas are issued on arrival for a stay of up to 30 days.

Passport

Your Australian must have validity exceeding 6 months after the date of entry. Passports must be valid for the period of intended stay. All visitors must hold tickets and documents for their return or onward journey.

Currency & Credit Cards

The Maldives local currency is call the Rufiyaa. The banknotes are 5, 10 & 20. The coins1.2.5.10.25 & 50 Lari. 100 Lari is the equivalent of one Rufiyaa. However please note that major credit cards can be used at all major resorts and the prices at all resorts will be in American dollars.

Weather

The weather in the Maldives is usually picture perfect: sunlit days, breezy nights, balmy mornings, and iridescent sunsets. The temperature hardly ever changes - which makes packing for your holiday an easy task (see what to pack). With the average temperature at about 30 degrees Celsius throughout the year. Maldives has two distinct seasons; dry season extending from November to March and wet season from mid-May to November.

Getting around

Most visitors to the Maldives will have pre-arranged their accommodation and transfers. The resorts all have their own representatives to meet you on arrival in Male (the Capital). They then will arrange to take you by boat or seaplane to your resorts.

What to Wear

The islands all vary, but a basic rule of thumb is relaxed dress. The temperature doesn't drop very much at night so take your lightest weight clothes, in natural, breathable fabrics such as silk, linen or cotton. Many of the islands are entirely ‘shoe free zones', so your bag can be very small. Temperatures soar during the day, so it is essential that you take a very high factor sun screen to be safe and a wide brimmed hat is also a good idea.
